Inspector Steve Drayton

Your latest Blog from your local Inspector, Steve Drayton, who covers the Blackwood and Risca areas

Welcome to my Spring blog, a few changes to the team since I last wrote. Congratulations to my Sergeant Phil O’Connell on his promotion. Phil has started his new job as Torfaen Inspector and Sergeant Maria Henry takes his place. Maria comes with a wealth of policing experience from across the Force so it’s good to have her with us. We’ve also recently welcomed another student officer to the team, PC Joe Richards. Please say hello if you see him out and about and look out for more officers landing throughout the summer.

Our Crime Prevention Panel is looking for new volunteers to join them. The group support us in giving crime prevention advice to communities. Full training will be given but if you’re interested please contact our crime and disorder reduction officer for more information.

It’s great to see the lighter evenings but with that often comes the seasonal crime of theft from sheds. Please check your outbuildings and make sure property in gardens is secured well. You can contact PC Lang for crime prevention advice.

Another seasonal activity that causes concern is the anti-social use of off road bikes and quads. We seized a quad last week in Risca and the team will continue to do this. We have a number of operations planned over the next few months to address this issue.

CSO Rees has been out patrolling with the Fire Service recently, a great partnership especially at this time of year where we address issues together such as preventing grass fires.

We’re continuing the roll out of our first aid training in schools, a great opportunity not only for children to learn lifesaving skills but to interact with our officers.

There are a number of engagement events over the summer where you will be able to meet the team. Keep an eye on our social media accounts for more information but the main event will be the Force open day on June 3rd at Police HQ. More details can be found here:
